According to Fluker’s the can contains only grasshoppers (locusta migratoria) in liquid. The grasshoppers are up to 80% moisture (basically water) and contain at least 18.5% protein an 0.5% fat.<\/p>\n

Ease of Use\/How to Feed Fluker’s Gourmet-Style Grasshoppers<\/h2>\n

Well, it’s a can of grasshoppers. It doesn’t get much easier than opening a can and tossing a few (non-wiggly) bugs in your box turtle’s feeding dish. Except that it may not actually be quite that easy. You may find dead bugs easier to handle than live ones, but your boxie may not agree. Some turtles really prefer the movement live insects make. It’s the thrill of the hunt \u2026 even if the prey can’t really get away.<\/p>\n

Of course, you may not know if you have a picky eater until you try. If it turns out you do, one option is to hand-feed these guys. Wiggle the grasshopper in front of your pet turtle until he starts eating. If he really likes them, he may eventually decide to eat them without you tricking him.<\/p>\n

The can has a resealable lid, which is very convenient for storage. But you can’t just seal it and leave it on the countertop. It’ll mold pretty quickly. You’ll need to at least refrigerate it. If you don’t expect to use it up within about a week, you might even consider freezing the leftover grasshoppers (pour off the liquid first). Then you can thaw just what you need each time. Admittedly, if you do this, you’ll probably end up feeding grasshopper pieces rather than whole grasshoppers.<\/p>\n

The can says you can feed these every day, but since box turtles don’t eat that much, you should plan to use them more as an occasional treat than an every-feeding type food.<\/p>\n
