We have baby sea turtles finally making it to the sea, a call to help track Hawaii’s sea turtles, and a man who’d rather watch turtles than swim.

Nothing new on the box turtle front for today. But we still like these three stories:

• The world has 2 more keeled box turtles! These Asian boxies are endangered & breeding them has been hard. These two were born at the Bristol Zoo, which has been trying for 12 years! (England) 🐢  💗  🐢
• University of North Georgia studies Eastern box turtles: The project looks at the turtles’ home range and how they use their habitat.
• Ever wanted to study box turtles? Here’s your chance! The Michigan Department of Natural Resources is looking for field assistants for 2018. It’s an unpaid internship, but it looks like fun!

Ever wanted to study box turtles? Here’s your chance! The Michigan Department of Natural Resources is looking for field assistants for 2018. It’s an unpaid internship, but it looks like fun!

Let Hector go home! The “grumpy” box turtle has been stuck at Gatwick Airport for more than 2 months. Her mom was accused of trying to smuggle her into the UK. Airport officials are charging 200 per month until the case is resolved. The family has started a GoFundMe campaign to help pay it.

Enjoy these repeats, if you missed them before:

• Fiberglass box turtle: A vet in Ohio fixed a boxie’s broken shell with fiberglass a few years ago and released him. Recently she discovered her old patient just hanging out in the woods. How did she know it was him? The fiberglass “bandage” was still attached!
• Good news for the Keeled Box Turtle: This species of Asian Box Turtle is endangered, like so many of its cousins. But the Turtle Conservation Center has had recent success with breeding them. It says 2016 was its best year yet.
• This yard is a box turtle haven!: At least one guy counts it as part of his regular habitat. <3 The author includes pictures of the very colorful male turtle.
