Turtle news is rather light for this holiday week.

But we found a sea turtle with a cool new flipper, a few cold-stunning stories, and it’s never too early to plan for nesting season.

Also, increased monitoring after turtle poaching, the Wetlands of International Importance list grows by one, and a chance to help with sea turtle field research.

Plus more.

Sharing Thanksgiving with your box turtle ... some menu items your pet can eat.

You can share a bit of your Thanksgiving meal with your box turtle. Just don’t overdo it.

Are you enjoying a Thanksgiving feast with family and friends? If you’re in the US, we hope you are!

And are you sharing that feast with your pets? Many people do!

Of course, it’s important to be sure you’re sharing safely. Social media is awash with guidelines for dogs & cats. There’s lots of traditional Thanksgiving foods they can’t have.

But what about your box turtles? Can they enjoy a bit of Thanksgiving too?

Some sea turtles released, and lots more needed rescuing. Some from poachers.

How do hatchlings know where they’re going? And why must some live surrounded by plastic?

Plus more.

Recent Box Turtle News

We only found one boxie story this week, but it’s a good one!

Remember the Eastern box turtle who’s been rolling around on a custom-built Lego wheelchair? He’s out of the wheelchair & ready for brumation! (that’s like hibernation, but for reptiles). Check out the video of zoo staff taking off the wheelchair & him getting his first taste of his big, roomy brumation box … I bet he loves that huge pile of leaves, perfect for burrowing! 😊

Video is from the Maryland Zoo’s Facebook page.

Turtle news we found interesting recently.

It was a slow turtle new week, but we did find a boxie rehab story and baby turtle stories … which always makes for a good week in our book!

There were also some rescues & releases. And unfortunately more smuggling stories. But at least they were caught.

Plus turtles off California coast will soon be safer. And more.

Recent Box Turtle News

This week we found both sad & happy box turtle stories. One man sees them as nothing but money while a wildlife sanctuary goes to great lengths to help one heal.

Caught trafficking in box turtles: A man in Oklahoma has been charged with shipping box turtles from Oklahoma to a pet store in Las Vegas. 🙁 If he’s convicted he could spend up to a year in prison.

And in happier news, did you see this rehabilitated beauty when we shared the post on Facebook earlier this week? Tails of Possumwood Acres Wildlife Sanctuary wired & zip-tied this guy together to give his shell time to heal. And it worked!
