Learn to track box turtles: If you’re near the Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary, sign up to learn box turtle tracking, and then head out to do just that! Presentation is on May 20.

Recent Box Turtle News

We need to do better about keeping forested areas connected to other forested areas. Many, many animals survive better when they live in forested/undeveloped areas connected to other similar areas.

Box turtles need connected forest areas to survive: Any one box turtle tends to stay in a relatively small home range. But that range needs to overlap with other box turtles’ ranges so they can breed. And a few will be wanderers, which can spread their DNA far & wide. But of course, roads are dangerous to turtles.

Recent turtle news you may have missed.

Along with the beginning of sea turtle nesting season in the US comes reminders to keep the beaches safe for the turtles. And the story one young man whose Eagle Scout project will hopefully keep the reminders front and center all season long.

We also found rescues and releases. And a lot of people around the world all trying to protect their turtle populations.

There’s also a bit of good news for a few turtle species. And for a certain turtle museum.

Plus, sadly, the continued fight against plastic pollution, abandoned fishing gear, and dangerous traps.
