We didn’t find any new box turtle news. But if you haven’t seen these two we shared before, take a look.

  • What happens to box turtles in a forest fire? That was part of the talk Matt Cross gave to biology students at Central Michigan University. And apparently they do much better than he expected when he started his study.
  • Surveying Eastern Box Turtles: A project in Massachusetts aims to find and track Eastern box turtles and wood turtles in the Memorial Forest Reservation in Sudbury.

Interesting turtle news you may have missed recently.

We didn’t find any new stories about box turtles this week.

But we did find lots of sea turtle news, including a wedding ceremony (yes, really!) and a surprise encounter with a group of leatherbacks.

Also a runaway tortoise is back home, and campers help baby snappers find the lake.  Plus a reminder about buying tiny turtles (don’t!).

Recent U. S. Turtle News

The best camping trip ever (baby turtles!), a turtle birthday party, and a final tribute for a loved turtle rescuer, among other stories.

Accidental turtle rescuers: They were just camping. Then snapping turtles started hatching! With park ranger approval, they helped the babies get to a nearby lake.  (Minnesota) 💚 🐢 💚

Back away from that cute tiny turtle! Buying a cute little turtle on impulse is usually a bad idea. It’s probably a baby red-eared slider. So it’s not going to stay tiny. It’s going to be expensive to keep. And if it’s smaller than 4 inches, it’s also illegal to sell.

  • Missing box turtles in Indiana: The author used to see them everywhere. These days they’re a rare sight. Help them if you can!
