Zoo Med ReptiRain® Automatic Misting Machine Review

The ZooMed ReptiRain automatic misting machine can help keep humidities high in reptile habitats.

The ReptiRain® Automatic Misting Machine from Zoo Med helps keep the humidity high in your reptile’s home. This helps keep your pet healthier.

Although the company does include box turtles in its list of animals this mister is good for, we’re not sure it’s the best one for them.

Yes, box turtles need humidity, but based on the reviews, this mister might actually make your boxie’s home too wet. It seems to spray more than mist.

Something like the ReptiFogger might be a better choice. The finer mist/fog it makes seems more appropriate for a box turtle home.

The final decision is up to you, of course. So we’ll present what we found and let you make that decision yourself.

This product is an improved version of the company’s HabbaMist mister. Some online store descriptions still call it HabbaMist, although the pictured product is the ReptiRain.

Zoo Med Repti Fogger Terrarium Humidifier Review

Zoo Med Repti Fogger Terrarium Humidifier
Keeping humidity at the right levels for your box turtle is not always easy, but the Repti Fogger Humidifier from Zoo Med can help. It creates a cool fog that humidifies the habitat environment.

It’s simple to use and adjustable, so you can set it to make the right amount of fog for your pet. When used along with a controller, you can keep the humidity within a narrow range.

Based on the reviews, the unit can be a little temperamental and noisy. And the fan has a tendency to break (replacements are available). But if you treat it right (like using only distilled water), it treats your reptile right.

Penn Plax Tortoise Palace Review

Penn Plax Tortoise Palace by ReptologyWant to treat your box turtle (or other small to mid-sized turtle/tortoise) like a king? The Reptology Tortoise Palace by Penn Plax is a great start.

It’s been available for a few years, but we only just discovered it. And it’s gorgeous! Combined with the stand made especially for it (but sold separately), it’s more like furniture than a pet home.

But it is a pet home, and a comfy one at that. It offers plenty of room for your pet to roam plus a hide area at one end. It’s water resistant and secure.

It’s also expensive, but it should last a long time. So in the long run it could be a good investment.

This thing is definitely on our want list. But we don’t own it and don’t expect to for a while. If you get one, we’d love to hear your thoughts!

Zoo Med Tortoise Play-Pen Review

Zoo Med Tortoise PlaypenTurtles like to play outside, too! So give them the chance with this Zoo Med Tortoise Play-Pen. It has an “open” side, without a floor and covered with an open mesh, to let your turtle enjoy the sunlight, graze and maybe even hunt a few insects. The other end is enclosed, for shade and sleeping.

Sunlight provides your box turtle with UVB rays, which are important for bone and shell growth and overall health. Just make sure one end (the enclosed side) is in shade, you your pets can regulate their own temperature. And put water out for them, too!

Zoo Med recommends you not use it in the rain or cold weather. And it’s not supposed to be a permanent enclosure, just a safe way to let your pet outside.

It’s best for smaller animals and no more than two adult or six baby animals.

Zoo Med Tortoise House Review

Zoo Med Tortoise HouseThis wooden Zoo Med Tortoise House is big enough for most sizes of box turtle, has a lockable lid for safety and a sheltered side where you turtle can escape from the sun or rain. It’s suitable for both indoor and outdoor use. And it’s expandable so you can give your box turtle more room, or keep multiple turtles in one house.

Most reviewers like it very much. A few did have a little trouble with assembly. And connecting two together does take a little creativity. But overall the advantages seem to outweigh the disadvantages.
