Zoo Med ReptiRain® Automatic Misting Machine Review

The ZooMed ReptiRain automatic misting machine can help keep humidities high in reptile habitats.

The ReptiRain® Automatic Misting Machine from Zoo Med helps keep the humidity high in your reptile’s home. This helps keep your pet healthier.

Although the company does include box turtles in its list of animals this mister is good for, we’re not sure it’s the best one for them.

Yes, box turtles need humidity, but based on the reviews, this mister might actually make your boxie’s home too wet. It seems to spray more than mist.

Something like the ReptiFogger might be a better choice. The finer mist/fog it makes seems more appropriate for a box turtle home.

The final decision is up to you, of course. So we’ll present what we found and let you make that decision yourself.

This product is an improved version of the company’s HabbaMist mister. Some online store descriptions still call it HabbaMist, although the pictured product is the ReptiRain.

Zoo Med Deluxe Porcelain Clamp Lamp Review

Zoo Med Deluxe Porcelain Clamp Lamp
Choosing heat and light bulbs for your box turtle’s home is only half the battle. Then you need to decide what lamp fixture to use. One with a ceramic socket is always a good choice. It will let you use the widest variety of bulbs.

So if you decide to try a different bulb, you’ll still be able to use the same lamp fixture. Most of the time, anyway.

This Deluxe Porcelain Clamp Lamp is a solid choice. It does have a porcelain socket. It clamps securely to the habitat or another sturdy object. And you can cover it to protect you and your pets from burns.

Zoo Med Wire Cage Clamp Lamp Fixture Review

Zoo Med Wire Cage Clamp Lamp

The Zoo Med Wire Cage Clamp Lamp fixture is just the thing for high heat emitting bulbs like ceramic heat emitters (CHEs).

The wire cage is safer for use with these bulbs than an enclosed dome. In fact, according to Zoo Med, this fixture is the only one UL rated for use with CHEs.

It has a ceramic socket, a clamp to hold it in place and an adjustable arm.

Zoo Med warrants this fixture for 1 year.

(Zoo Med item number LF-10)

Zoo Med Precision Dual Thermometer/Humidity Gauge Review

Zoo Med Precision Dual Thermometer/Humidity GaugeThe best way to keep your box turtle healthy and happy is to keep his home at the right temperature and humidity. And keeping a thermometer and humidity guage in the habitat is the easiest way to keep an eye on those levels.

This precision thermometer/humidity gauge from Zoo Med displays both, making it quick and easy for you to get readings at a glance.

It’s a dial-type unit, not digital, so the readings may be less accurate than a digital one. But box turtles are less sensitive to minor variations than some other reptiles. So if you’re looking for a decent unit at a decent price, this may be all you need.

Please Note: This is not the Zoo Med Economy Thermometer/Humidity Gauge. Although that one seems very similar to this one, they are not the same item.

Zoo Med ReptiHalogen Bulb Review

ReptiHalogen bulb from Zoo Med

The ReptiHalogen Heat Lamp from Zoo Med is made specifically to use with reptiles. It provides the heat your box turtle needs, along with UVA rays that stimulate feeding and breeding.

The bright white light makes him look more vibrant, too. So you’ll both be happier!

The bulbs are delicate, but with careful handling (actually as little handling as possible), they can last up to a year.

Zoo Med Repti Fogger Terrarium Humidifier Review

Zoo Med Repti Fogger Terrarium Humidifier
Keeping humidity at the right levels for your box turtle is not always easy, but the Repti Fogger Humidifier from Zoo Med can help. It creates a cool fog that humidifies the habitat environment.

It’s simple to use and adjustable, so you can set it to make the right amount of fog for your pet. When used along with a controller, you can keep the humidity within a narrow range.

Based on the reviews, the unit can be a little temperamental and noisy. And the fan has a tendency to break (replacements are available). But if you treat it right (like using only distilled water), it treats your reptile right.

Zoo Med Repti Ramp Bowl Review

Repti Ramp water bowl by Zoo Med

Give your box turtle easy access to water for soaking and drinking with this Repti Ramp Bowl by Zoo Med.

Soaking is an important part of a box turtle’s day, but finding suitable bowls isn’t always easy. They’re too small, or too shallow, or too hard to climb in and out of. Not to mention too easy to knock over and spill (box turtles can be a bit like bulls in a china shop—destructive!).

This bowl solves those problems. Most adult box turtles can fit into the extra-large size. And the gently sloping “steps” provide easy access.

It’s even environmentally friendly—made from 100% recycled plastic.

Zoo Med ReptiSafe Water Conditioner Review

Zoo Med ReptiSafe Water Conditioner

Regular tap water can contain chlorine, ammonia and other chemicals your pet doesn’t need, but ReptiSafe Water Conditioner removes them all. And it does it almost instantly.

It also contains ions and electrolytes that help keep your reptile better hydrated.

Don’t worry about the “Terrarium” in the name. You can use it for your box turtle’s drinking/soaking water dish, too. The bottle has instructions for use both in terrariums and for drinking water.

If you also have amphibians and/or fish, it will stimulate slime coat development in them.

This is basically a great all-around product to make water safer and healthier for any reptile, amphibian or fish you own.

Zoo Med Digital Terrarium Thermometer Review

Zoo Med Digital Terrarium Thermometer
The Zoo Med Digital Terrarium Thermometer is a simple way to keep an eye on the temperature in your box turtle’s habitat. Just place the probe, turn on the display and you can see the temperature at a glance.

The display unit hangs conveniently outside the habitat, so it’s easy to see and read.

And the display is digital, so so you don’t have to stop and stare at little lines to figure out the right reading.

It’s not perfect (yellow? Really?), and you might have to get creative if you’re hanging it on a wood habitat (suction cups won’t stick!). But it gets the job done at a good price.
